Community Programs Assistant
$15.80 per hour
14-21 hours per week
Term: June 21-August 31
The Community Programs Assistant (Green Team) will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of community-focused programs and events. These events and programs include but aren't limited to: on-going tours of Dalnavert Museum; walking tours of the Broadway Neighborhood surrounding Dalnavert Museum; Dementia-friendly tours; Pride month programs; family-oriented Second Saturday programming; family oriented tea parties; and Dalnavert Days which is a two day free community festival.
The Green Team employee will:
assist in planning and organization of programs/events
coordinate logistics, set-up and tear-down event spaces, and prepare supplies
help manage bookings
assist with promotion through social media, flyers, etc.
provide support during events such as crowd management, registration, delivering tours and leading activities
work alongside volunteers
assist in evaluation of programs through recording attendance, surveys, visitor feedback, etc.
Candidates interested in this position should demonstrate the following education, experience and/or skills:
Experience in delivering museum or other public programming
Experience in project management for events or other large scale projects
Experience in use of common design tools, multimedia, and related equipment/software strongly desired
Experience with popular social media platforms (especially Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok)
Demonstrated interest in Canadian historical perspectives, e.g. social and political history, built heritage, material culture, interpretation and storytelling.
Computer proficiency, including standard tools such as MS Office.
Experience working with digital photography is an asset.
Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, French and/or additional language skills (including ASL and Indigenous languages) an asset.
Excellent oral, communication and organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, friendly, open to learning, self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
Note: Availability to work weekends is a requirement.

Fall/Winter Young Canada Works
Dalnavert is hiring for two term positions through the Young Canada Works (YCW) program: Museum Programs and Outreach Coordinator and Collections and Curatorial Intern. These positions will begin by late August 2025 with work terms ending March 31, 2026. Interviews will be conducted in July.

Museum Programs and Outreach Coordinator (YCW)
$17.30/hour
35 hours/week

Dalnavert Museum is seeking a Museum Programs and Outreach Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate seeking to develop experience in the museum sector with a particular focus on program development and delivery, interpretation, outreach, communications, and wider museum operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with our Executive Director and management team to develop and implement innovative and inclusive programs, deliver exceptional visitor experiences via tours and other activities, engage existing and new audiences, implement communications strategies, and contribute to Dalnavert's mission to promote and protect this National Historic site in critically engaging and challenging ways. Professional development opportunities, including training and mentorship delivered by members of Dalnavert's Board, will be provided in an effort to assist the successful candidate plan their career goals.
The primary tasks to be undertaken by the Museum Programs and Communications Intern are as follows:
Develop an innovative and inclusive school program that expands Dalnavert Museum’s current offering.
Work with the museum team to develop and deliver innovative and inclusive signature programs that connect with existing audiences and develop new audiences.
Deliver exceptional frontline visitor services, including providing tours and other recurring programs, processing admissions and other sales, and responding to visitor enquiries as needed.
Coordination and creation of newsletters, website and social media content, and the creation of promotional marketing materials as required; contribute to communication planning meetings as required.
Contribute to daily museum operations including, assisting with volunteer support, setting event spaces, ensuring health and safety procedures are being followed, and other standard museum operation duties as required.
Liaise with the collections team to develop engaging content related to artefacts and/or collections practices to be used to promote the museum and its activities.
Assist with fundraising, donor development and membership services as necessary.
Candidates interested in this position should demonstrate the following education, experience and skills:
Upper-level University or College education in any of the following areas is preferred: Museum Studies, Education, Humanities (History, Canadian Studies, Anthropology, Art History, and Fine Arts), Communication Arts, Marketing, Public Relations, Information Technology, , or demonstrable skills and experience in a relevant professional sphere.
A high level of experience in developing and delivering museum programming including public and school programs such as tours, workshops and education programs and/or the ability to demonstrate relevant skills/experiences in a related area (project management and delivery etc.)
A high level of experience in building audiences through outreach, including but not limited to experience with partnerships, membership management, and digital media outreach
Experience in the use of common design tools, multimedia, and related equipment/software desired (e.g. Website development, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, Digital Audio Recording/Editing).
Experience with popular social media platforms in a professional sphere (including relevant volunteer experience) a requirement and can be demonstrated with sample work; experience with social media as a brand tool an asset.
Demonstrated interest in Canadian historical perspectives, e.g. social and political history, built heritage, material culture, interpretation and story-telling.

Collections and Curatorial intern (YCW)
$17.30/hour

Friends of Dalnavert Museum are seeking a Collections and Curatorial Intern to assist us in collections management and conservation, and in developing a commemorative exhibit for the 130th anniversary of the historic house.
Through exhibits, lectures, and tours, they will help us make the history of Dalnavert, Winnipeg, and the Victorian era accessible and relevant to our community. They will undertake research to support exhibit design and programming, with an emphasis on themes of justice, immigration, and reconciliation. They will assist Dalnavert Museum’s Collections Registrar in the care and preservation of the Museum’s extensive collection. Collection duties will be interspersed with some daily operational duties that will include the occasional delivery of guest services at the reception desk, house tours, and supporting volunteers with our interpretative programming.
Friends of Dalnavert Museum is the registered charity that owns and operates Dalnavert Museum and Visitors’ Centre, located at 61 Carlton St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dalnavert is the restored 1895 home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, son of Sir John A. Macdonald, and his family. Our mission is to preserve and maintain the museum's buildings, grounds, and collection; to present engaging programs and exhibits that interpret the history of the house and Winnipeg's rich heritage for visitors; and to develop partnerships and programming that make Dalnavert a cultural centre for city residents.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
Conduct research to support exhibits and programming
Develop a plan and mount an exhibit commemorating the 130th anniversary of the historic house
Write a series of blog posts for our website and social media about the history of the house, its inhabitants, or the history of the neighborhood, focusing on our 130th anniversary.
Learn the process behind accepting and accessioning artifacts
Check, record, and analyze daily/monthly temperature and humidity readings
Implement our Integrated Pest Management program
Assist in care of heritage rooms and artifacts on a regular basis
Assist in the digitization of our collection
Provide programming assistance, as required
Deliver interpretive tours of the national historic site to guests, as required
Assist with front line visitor services in conjunction with volunteers, as required
Candidates interested in this position should demonstrate the following education, experience and skills:
