Dalnavert: The Anatomy of a Victorian House offers an architectural reading of one of Western Canada’s most distinguished historic residences. This illustrated lecture treats Dalnavert as an artifact of the built environment, shaped by design intent and historical circumstances, and places the house within broader histories of Victorian design and society. Examining the house’s plan, envelope, interiors, and materials, the lecture considers Dalnavert as a model of the Victorian home, and how such houses functioned as integrated systems formed by architectural, technological, and social conditions of the era.
Dalnavert: The Anatomy of a Victorian House marks the launch of The Architecture of Dalnavert, the museum’s new architectural tour.
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for members.
