New Exhibit launch!

Dalnavert is pleased to invite you to celebrate the launch of "Is There a Spirit Here With Us: Contextualizing the Spiritualism Movement" on Saturday, April 25. Drop by between 6:00pm and 7:00pm to be among the first to see this new exhibit in the Visitors' Centre and have an opportunity to hear from its curator. There will be a cash bar and themed activities in the historic house.

Admission for members is free and is $5 for members of the public (plus applicable online booking fees and taxes).

About the Exhibit

The Spiritualism movement is often sensationalized in movies and television, showing  malevolent ghosts and haunted houses. It is most recognizable through depictions of séances held around tables in dark rooms, and photos of ectoplasm escaping from the mouths of mediums. 

How did this movement come to be? Context is everything. This exhibit explores the time and place that birthed the Spiritualist movement. From the mediums and spirit rappings of the 1850s to the psychical research of the Hamiltons that started in the 1920s right here in Winnipeg. Spiritualism moves through science, entertainment, religion, technological advancement, grief, and human curiosity into life after death.
