Deck the Halls of Dalnavert

Tours available most Thursdays-Sundays December 4 through January 4, departing at 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 2:30pm

Celebrating Christmas as we know it today didn't take off until the Victorian era, when the holiday was reinvented with the explosion in popularity of numerous items still in use today, such as Christmas trees, cards, gift wrap and the concept of gift-giving.

In the 19th century, stories such as A Christmas Carol and poems such as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas added to the holiday becoming a massive cultural phenomenon and popularized the holiday’s spirit of giving to those in need and the whole concept of what Santa Claus means to so many children today.

In this festive tour, travel back in time to Victorian Winnipeg and learn how Victorians celebrated Christmas by playing dangerous parlour games, eating lots of candy, and carolling—pretty similar to today!
