He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not: Victorians and Fortune Telling is the first lecture in our lecture series The Language of Dalnavert: An Insider's Perspective of the House and the Victorians with Dalnavert’s Collections Registrar, Inés Bonacossa.
From Crystal gazing to the reading of tea leaves and séances, fortune telling was quite popular during the 19th-century. Nothing was more thrilling than predicting the future, finding a husband or contacting the dead. At times though, some got more than they bargained for, all thanks to at least one particular fortune teller taking “lascivious advantage” of women! And no, he didn’t get away with it!
Tickets are $15 per person per lecture. Ticket price does not include entrance to the historic house. If you would like a tour of the house before or after the lecture, please book ahead online.
